Everyone is looking for ways to improve their skin. Where some blemishes are not as serious as others, some skin issues can lower self confidence and give people complexes. Spider veins are common developments that many people endure. The good news is there is treatment for them with Sclerotherapy and today; we at the Skin and Body Refinery would like discuss it.

What Are Spider & Varicose Veins?

Flesh toned, blue, or purple, varicose veins appear as large, bulbous veins. Discoloration will reach the surface of your skin in many cases. Often painful, these dilated veins can cause aching and swelling. The legs can feel weak or tired and this can also lead to a great deal of stress on your legs. Tiny blood vessels that form at the surface of the skin are spider veins. Rightfully named, they are usually red, purple, or blue in color and look very much like a spider’s web. They can also develop on your face, which are fairly obvious and many take a hit in their self esteem and are embarrassed by them.

Varicose & Spider Vein Causes

These diseased veins are caused within the blood vessels themselves. From other areas of your body, your veins should carry blood back to your heart. In order for the blood to stay on course and to prevent blood from flowing back into the veins, veins have small valves. The blood flows back into the vein increasing pressure inside the vein when these valves are not properly functioning. Inevitably, this pressure will weaken the vein which leads it to swell and bulge. There are different circumstances as to why some people will suffer from these improperly functioning veins. Some include:
1) Tumors, constipation, or certain garments such as girdles that increase pressure in your abdomen.
2) Obesity.
3) Genetics with a family history of Spider and Varicose Veins.
4) Pregnancy, menopause, and even puberty and other hormonal issues.
5) A history of blood clots.
6) Postmenopausal hormone replacement.

Is Sclerotherapy Safe?

To improve someone’s legs appearance from these veins, sclerotherapy procedure is used for cosmetic reasons. Sclerotherapy is also used to relieve the discomforts caused by swelling, burning, aching, heaviness in the legs, and cramping during the evening hours. Many people use this method to remove the appearance of these small varicose and spider veins. With a solution called Sclerosant, the patient is injected directly into the vein with this solution. The blood is forced to enter healthy veins as the solution causes the abnormal vein to close up. The damaged vein is absorbed into body tissue and fades away over time.
