Can a PDO Thread Improve My Appearance?

If you are experiencing mild facial drooping, the PDO thread lift procedure can dramatically lift and improve the appearance of sagging jowls, neck, cheeks and eyebrows. This procedure is minimally invasive and does not involve surgery or general anesthesia. At The Skin & Body Refinery, our highly skilled aestheticians will personalize a skin care program that is designed specifically for you. PDO Threads are in integral part of your facial rejuvenation experience and work best when combined with other procedures to give you the level of improvement and results you are looking for.

What Can I Expect from a PDO Thread Lift Procedure?

Your PDO Thread procedure can be completed during one office visit. Our skilled medical professionals will insert small threads into your facial skin paying particular attention to place them in the most optimal locations. The areas selected will depend on the type of lifting needed. A local anesthetic can be injected, but most people experience the procedure without the need. Once the needles have been inserted, the threads are left behind as the needles are removed. The entire procedure can be completed in approximately 60 minutes or less. The sutures are made from an absorbable material called polydioxanone or PDO for short. PDO sutures are typically used to perform cardiac surgery, are FDA-approved and one of the safest materials that can be used in the body! Your skin will fully absorb the sutures within 4 to 6 months in a process referred to as hydrolysis. The human body is excellent at self-repair and while the sutures are under the skin, your skin will react by producing collagen and connective tissue. The production of collagen that forms around the sutures before they dissolve will continue to hold and tighten the skin for lasting results. The PDO thread lift is a safe procedure that typically has very few side effects. While side effects are rare, they may include infection, swelling, bruising, and tenderness. Occasionally, a suture may become visible just below the surface area of the skin. The majority of these issues resolve themselves a week or so after your procedure.

PDO Thread Lift Recovery Time

The majority of our clients are able to return to normal activities the day after their procedure; however strenuous exercise or other activities are discouraged as they may cause the threads to move from their original positions. While you can see some minor improvements immediately after the procedure, the best results will be seen 2 to 3 weeks after your office visit. During the first two weeks, collagen and connective tissue begin to form resulting in firmer, fuller and tighter skin.

How Long Does a PDO Thread Lift Last?

While individual results vary from person to person, most people experience results that last between six months to two years. Additional threads may be inserted every six to twelve months to maintain and improve the effect of firmer, younger looking skin.
