What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis causes abnormally excessive sweating that is not related to heat or exercise. It is a common disorder that usually affects the hands, underarms, face and feet. Excessive sweating is not just embarrassing with social and emotional complications but it can also lead to skin infections that exacerbates the condition.
What Causes Hyperhidrosis?
Our nervous system automatically sends a signal to our sweat glands when our body temperature rises or we are nervous, causing us to sweat. In cases of hyperhidrosis, the nerves responsible for triggering the sweat glands are overactive, regardless of weather or mood. With these common conditions, the sweating becomes even worse. Although there are some infectious, endocrine or neurological diseases that may cause hyperhidrosis, most excessive sweating conditions occur in people who are in good general health.
Hyperhidrosis Treatment
If sweating fails to improve with antiperspirants, you may be a candidate for Dysport to treat your hyperhidrosis. Injected just below the surface of the skin, Dysport blocks the overactive nerves and chemicals that are responsible for activating the sweat glands. It should be noted that this treatment only disables nerves and prevents sweating where Dysport is injected, and is more effective with the more units injected. Dysport is a highly effective treatment for hyperhidrosis and has been approved by the FDA to treat this condition.
