Blackheads are a common skin issue found in men and women, typically manifesting on the face. They are a nuisance that occurs when pores become clogged with excess sebum, which is an oil produced by the sebaceous glands, as well as dead skin cells. The difference between blackheads and white heads is whether or not the pore is opened or closed. An open pore allows the plug of sebum, or skin cells, which oxidize when the oxygen in the air alters it to black. Blackheads are not the byproduct of dirt in the pores, so excessive washing will not help clear them. However, we at The Skin and Body Refinery would like to offer some natural tips to reduce the appearance of blackheads in your pores.
Tips to Get Rid of Blackheads from Nose & Face
1) Clay Mask. A bentonite clay is a mineral that is rich in healing substances. It is capable of drawing out oils and impurities that are locked in your pores. It will not only clear out the blackheads of the pores but it will also contribute to skin tone and health. The clay can be drying however, and we recommend applying a moisturizer to avoid irritated skin. Mix together 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay and enough water to create a paste. After washing your face and using clean fingers, apply a thin layer of clay on the face and let it dry for 10-25 minutes. Rinse well with lukewarm water and follow up with moisturizer.
2) Egg White Mask. The egg white mask will temporarily tighten pores and reduce future blackheads as well as remove any present ones. Egg whites are rich in nutrients in the skin and minimize any skin drying side effects. Separate the yolk from the white and rinse your face. Pat dry your face and apply the whites on your face and either place strips of facial tissue or toilet paper over the egg white layer. Follow up with another layer of egg white on the tissue apply a 3rd layer if you like. After it has dried, remove the residues, pat dry and moisturize. If you prefer, you can apply 3-5 layers of egg whites after it has dried.
3) Tone. Shrinking the pores helps minimize blackheads, as they are caused by open clogged pores that are reacting to oxygen. Lemon juice toner will get the job done, however it will lighten the skin color under the sun so be sure to apply sunscreen. If your skin is sensitive to lemon juice, dilute some with water. Rinse your face well and pat dry, Squeeze fresh lemons and capture the juice in a bottle and use a cotton ball to apply it on the skin. Do this procedure 3-4 times a week just before bed time and be sure to rinse in the morning with lukewarm water.
4) Baking Soda. Baking soda will work wonders on blackheads, but it will dry out your skin if you overdo it. The small, fine granules will work as a natural exfoliate and remove the debris in pores that contribute to blackheads. Mix baking soda and water until a thick paste is created by it. It needs to be spreadable. With circular motions and moderate pressure, massage the paste into your pores. Rinse well with plain water and pat dry your face. Be sure to follow up with a moisturizer.
