Basically a facial for the body, a body scrub is a popular body treatment that exfoliates and hydrates your skin, leaving it smooth and soft. Body scrubs often include some kind of massage oil and an aromatic like essential oils, sea salt or sugar, or other natural abrasive material. However, if salt is used, the day or medical spa might refer to it as a salt scrub, salt glow or sea salt scrub. To leave your skin hydrated, the scrub is followed by an application of high-quality lotion or cream. Because body treatments can be performed by aestheticians who are only licensed to work on skin, a body scrub is not technically a massage, as they do not treat the underlying muscle tissue (unless they are giving massage to the face, neck, and shoulders.) Today, we at The Skin and Body Refinery would like to share some information concerning the body scrub spa service.

Day Spa Body Scrub Procedure; What to Expect

Before your treatment, your skin therapist will consult with you on the variety of salt scrubs we have available to determine which product you prefer in terms of fragrance etc. Your aesthetician will then position you lying down on heated towels while covering you discreetly. The exfoliating mixture is gently rubbed by the skin therapist on your back, the backs of your arms, and the backs of your legs and feet, working across your body by scrubbing and rinsing one area at a time. Once the scrub is removed, you will roll over and your skin therapist will repeat the procedure on your front side adding and subtracting towels to expertly and discretely remove the product from your skin. Once the product is removed, your skin therapist will finish by applying a luxuriously scented oil based lotion to further soften your skin. Your treatment will take approximately 30 minutes from start to finish.

Other Body Scrub Info You Should Know

Additional information you should know about getting a body scrub.
1) Body scrub services are offered on their own, but are also often part of a body wrap services; the first step in seaweed or mud wrap, or signature treatments.
3) A body scrub can also be combined with a massage. Because the body scrub is stimulating, it should be done first, followed by a calming massage. Many spas offer signature treatments that combine both body scrub and massage.
4) Keep in mind that salts and other materials used for exfoliating the skin can be abrasive in addition to some people having varying degrees of skin sensitivity. In the event the scrubbing is too harsh, speak up.
