If you want baby smooth skin, then dermaplaning is a great way to get it. Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that uses a 10-gauge scalpel called a dermatome to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells to reveal a brighter, smoother complexion. It’s a super effective way to exfoliate your skin.

Dermaplaning Tool & Procedure

Dermaplaning is a great way to pamper yourself. The blade that is used for the procedure is the same one that a surgeon would use, so you will need to make sure you hire someone extremely skilled and with lots of experience. Oils and makeup are removed first for the best results. A chemical peel can be used in conjunction with the dermaplaning to enhance the results. The skin is held taut and the aesthetician will use the small blade held at a 45-degree angle and swipe it across the skin in gentle, upward motions. The blade is used on clean, dry skin on the forehead, cheeks, chin, nose and neck.

Dermaplaning Pros; It is Good for Acne

Along with dead skin cells dermaplaning will also remove all the fine hairs from your face also known as peach fuzz. When the fine hair on your face is removed you are getting rid of what traps oils and debris that will make your skin look dull. After you have had the dermaplaning procedure you’ll find that your beauty products work much better because they can penetrate your skin more easily. Make up will also look flawless. Long-term results include an increase in cell turnover, fewer wrinkles and dark spots and a reduction in scars from acne. After the procedure your skin might be pink or slightly red. This should disappear within a day. If the treatment is more aggressive you may experience mild flaking of the skin for about a week. If you have very oily skin or active acne, then this procedure isn’t a good option for you.

How Long Does it Last & How Often Should You Dermaplane?

Dermaplaning is not just a one-time procedure. If you want these results all the time, then you’ll need to have it done regularly. Dermaplaning will remove up to three weeks of dead skin cells that have accumulated with results that can last for up to four weeks. If you maintain your skin daily and in the right way, the results can last for up to six weeks. Shaving at home is not the same as dermaplaning because a two-blade razor has blades that are duller than a surgical scalpel. Shorter strokes in the right direction and in a particular pattern is required for dermaplaning and because of this specific technique along with a delicate touch it is not something you should try at home.
