When looking at the many different services a med spa can provide, you may come across some services or treatment you are not familiar with. As medical technology advances, newer cosmetic treatments are being offered. One of the more newer services is Focused RF (radio-frequency) which is a specialized treatment used to tighten loose skin. To see if Focused RF is right for you, Skin And Body Refinery will go into more detail about Focused RF and how it works.

What is Focused RF Skin Tightening?

Focused radio-frequency (RF) is a non-surgical method used to tighten skin. The focused RF procedure involves energy waves that heat up the deepest layer of the skin known as the dermis. The heat is used to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen is a natural occurring protein in the body. Collagen creates the framework of the skin and is what helps gives skin its firmness. As we age we will begin to produce less collagen which is why skin sags and wrinkles. Often the quality and quantity of collagen will begin to decline around the ages of 35 to 40. By starting Focused RF in your early to the mid thirty’s, you can begin fighting back against aging and maintaining firmer and younger skin.

How Does Focused RF Really Work?

The first type of RF available was Thermalift which was used for skin tightening. Thermalift or RF showed so much potential that more researchers and technology continued to develop. Today there are a number of different types of RF technology or procedures such as Exilis, Profound RF, Thermage, and Thermi. Each type of procedure works basically the same way. The RF waves heat up the dermis layer of the skin. The heat reaches around 122 to 167 degrees Fahrenheit. Applying heat to the dermis for about three minutes causes the body to release heat shock proteins that creates new collagen fibers. The heat waves or the radio-frequency wave that Focused RF technology uses is a form of radiation. Radiation is the release of energy and in this case from an electromagnetic wave. Focused RF uses a low energy radio wave to create the needed stimulate for collagen. The radiation is not dangerous or harmful as they are very low, much lower than the radiation wave used for X-rays.

Benefits of RF Frequency?

There are number of benefits and potential for Focused RF. The primary use for Focused RF is to get rid of and prevent sagging skin and wrinkles by tightening the skin. However, researchers have begun to suggest that Focused RF and the collagen it develops is also restoring sun damaged skin. The UV rays from the sun can break down collagen fibers and damage the skin. With Focused RF you can aid in rebuilding the collagen and reversing the damage done by the sun. Focused RF has also been used for body contouring. For those who have lost weight and have remaining loose skin, Focused RF can help re-tighten the body. However, it may take between 5 to 8 sessions before you get the desired result. Nevertheless, you can reclaim your body and re-tighten your skin all without surgery.
