In past years, thread lifts involved surgery and too often had undesirable side effects including infections and thread breakage. But in recent years, the thread lifts have radically changed and most are now noninvasive. Though there are many different types of thread lifts, the PDO thread lift is among the most popular and we at The Skin Body and Refinery would like to take the opportunity to talk about the procedure.

PDO Thread Lift Effects

The PDO thread lift uses threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO) to lift and tighten sagging skin tissue. These threads introduce the sagging tissue to the deeper layers of skin which produces beneficial effects of the skin that include:
– Through mechanical effect, instant skin lifting.
– Through collagen stimulation and neovascularisation that improves skin texture, fine lines, and elasticity, the skin experiences cellular renewal.
– By contracting fatty tissue, skin is tightened.

How Long Does a PDO Thread Lift Last?

The PDO threads will disappear through simple hydrolysis because they dissolve, after approximately six months following the procedure. Due to the cellular rejuvenation effects, the lifted facial contours will remain for about 3-6 months more. To improve the skin microcirculation, the skin cells are stimulated to produce new collagen and new blood vessels. To produce a skin tightening and facial slimming effect, the PDO threads cause the fat tissue to contract.

PDO Thread Lift Procedure

A PDO thread lift is done by inserting housing needles, called cannulas, into the skin in a sterile procedure to place the PDO threads. A local anesthesia ensures the treated area is numbed before the PDO threads are inserted into different layers of the skin with the either sharp or blunt needles known as cannulas. The threads anchor the skin and lift it upwards after it is inserted and the excess is then cut off. The procedure takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated. There is little to no pain during the procedure and most patients that undergo the procedure describe it as minimal discomfort.

Areas that Can Benefit from PDO Thread Lifts

Areas PDO Thread Lift treats are as follows:
– Under or corners of the eyes
– Eyebrow area
– Cheeks
– Around the mouth
– Jaw Line
– Jowls
– Neck
– Nasolabial folds
– Naso jugal folds

PDO Thread Lift Recovery

As the threads provide support to lift skin in its new position, your skin is immediately lifted after a PDO thread lifting procedure. Initially, you may look unnaturally tighter, slightly, but typically within 1 week, the skin will relax, giving you a more natural look. You will notice improved skin texture, firmer, and smoother skin because the rejuvenating effects of the skin take effect within 1-2 months. During the procedure, the doctor may focus on the skin rejuvenation, or skin lifting depending on the desired results and which technique is ultimately used. However, end results will vary from the individual person. The effects continue even after the threats have completely dissolved about 9 months following the procedure.
