Building a skin care routine is important, but before you can do it, you need to understand what type of skin you have. There are many products out there that claim to work wonders for your skin, but if they aren’t designed to help your specific type of skin, they could end up making matters worse in the long run. Skin & Body Refinery is here to share some information about the different types of skin and how to care for them.

Normal Skin Meaning

This the best type of skin to have. Most of us wish this is what our skin looked like. Caring for normal skin is simple because it isn’t too dry or too oily. Even if you have normal skin, you shouldn’t avoid taking care of it. You should be cleaning it once a day followed by a daytime and nighttime moisturizer. Gently exfoliating it at least once a week will help your skin avoid signs of aging too prematurely.

Skin Care Routine for Combination Skin

If there are areas on your face that are especially oily, you probably have combination skin. On your face, you have what is known as the ‘T Zone.’ This is the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. When there is an unusual amount of oil in this area, you should be using a toner after your cleanse your face. Another trick is to use a moisturizing mask twice a week to help you appropriately care for your skin.

Dry Skin Treatment

You should never use a toner on your skin if you have dry skin. There are some problems that will only compound the problem when used with the wrong skin type. You should use an intense moisturizer to help combat dry patches on your face. If you have flaking skin, you can try using a moisturizing mask twice a week. Be careful though, when you use it too often, it can cause your skin to flake more.

Remedies for Oily Skin

Oily skin needs to be cared for with products that will remove the excess oil, but not completely dry out your face as well. When selecting the moisturizer for your face, choose ones that have no oil in them. Clay masks can be helpful when they are used weekly to help remove oil from your face.

Sensitive Skin Type

Nothing is worse than using a product on your skin only to find that it caused severe allergic reactions. Those that have sensitive skin need to be aware of the products they are using. Fragrance free products are the safest to use when you have this type of skin. Look for face washes, moisturizers and masks that are hypo-allergenic.
