A Botox lip flip is a quick, effective alternative to dermal lip fillers. Lip flips are nonsurgical and can be performed in an office environment in a short period of time, typically 10 to 20 minutes. A small amount of Botox is injected into the middle of the upper lip (Cupid’s bow) and into the corners of your mouth. The Botox temporarily relaxes the muscles around your upper lip area causing part of your lip to, as the name implies flip upwards and outwards, giving your upper lip a lush, full and youthful appearance.
Is a Lip Flip the Right Procedure for Me?
If you are interested in achieving full beautiful looking lips without the use of dermal fillers, you feel that you upper lip is thin and disappears when you smile, or if you have prominent gums and want to achieve a smile that is more evenly balanced with less gums showing, then a lip flip is the right procedure for you. Lip flips typically last for 8 to 12 weeks, but if you are looking for a more permanent solution, dermal fillers or lip lifts may be a better option for you.
Lip Flip VS Lip Filler
Lip flips and dermal fillers both achieve the appearance of fuller looking lips but the procedures themselves are very different. For example, lip flips appear to give lips a fuller plumper look while dermal fillers actually do make the lip area fuller by injecting a liquid made primarily of hyaluronic acid. Lip flips use a tiny amount of Botox to relax the muscles turning the upper lip upwards to make the lip appear fuller without adding actual volume.
What Can I Expect During My Lip Flip Procedure?
Approximately 3 to 4 days before your lip flip procedure; you will need to avoid the use of blood thinners and alcohol to stop unnecessary swelling. The procedure will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and is virtually painless, so no numbing agents are required. A small amount of Botox will be injected into the centers and corner of your upper lip area.
Lip Flip Aftercare
After your lip flip procedure, you will be able to resume most of your regular activities. Most patients experience slight swelling and numbness. If you smoke, you will need to stop after your procedure to minimize the risk of infection. Do not rub your lips, doing so can cause the Botox to separate and spread. It is also recommended that you sleep on your back for a few days after the procedure to avoid your lips coming in contact with your bedding.
How Long to See Results After Botox Lip Flip?
Most patients begin to see results within a few days of the procedure. You will experience the full results within 10 to 14 days. It is important to remember that lip flips are not a permanent solution and the effects of your procedure will only last 2 to 3 months. Once the effect begins to wear off, you can maintain the desired result of fuller lips by electing to have additional injections.
