Imagine a world where you did not have to deal with shaving, plucking, and waxing. You would probably save a lot of time in your daily routine and maybe even make it on time to work. Have you ever considered laser hair removal? Skin & Body Refinery wants to help you learn if laser hair removal is right for you.

Who is Best Candidates for Laser Hair Removal?

If you have hair, then you can get laser hair removal. But some people are better candidates for it. If you have lighter skin with dark hair it seems to work better. The laser targets pigment on each hair, so the darker the hair the better it works. If you have gray, red, or blonde hair, that hair doesn’t have as much pigment in it. This makes it harder for the laser to detect the hair.

Do You Shave Before Laser Hair Removal?

If are a great candidate and ready to get rid of that hair, here is how you prepare. You need to refrain from plucking or waxing beforehand. You will need to shave the day before with a new razer. Then don’t apply products to the skin. That means no lotions, oils, creams, and perfumes. Your skin needs to be completely clean. Make sure to take a shower or bath before you leave your house for your appointment to make sure you get all of the scents off of your skin.

What is the Procedure for Laser Hair Removal?

Right before your procedure, you will be asked a few questions to make sure you are still good to get the treatment done. You will have someone there explaining everything to you, so you know what is going on. The area you will be getting done will first be cleaned. With a possibility of some numbing gel. Then they will have you put on glasses to protect your eyes during your procedure. Everyone in the room will also be wearing glasses. When they start the procedure the laser will get rid of the hair by vaporizing it. The time it will take will depend on the size of the area you want to be done. It may feel like little pokes while the procedure is taking place.

What is the Best Thing to Do After Laser Hair Removal?

When the treatment is over it may feel like a razor burn or a mild sunburn. You may want to apply cold compression on any areas that were treated because you could be experiencing swelling, redness, or irritation. After your treatment make sure to try and avoid direct sun exposure to the treated area. You should also avoid a hot tub and sauna for at least 24 hours after treatment. Another great suggestion is to use SPF 30 and higher every day rain or shine.
