Sometimes when you notice that you have skin tags on your body, it causes people to be alarmed. There is no need for this though. Skin tags can be a simple thing to deal with. There is a lot that we don’t completely understand about skin tags though. Skin & Body Refinery is here to shed some light on the subject of skin tags and what needs to be done to treat them.

What are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are actually tumors that are found on the outside of your body. While the word tumor can be scary, in this case, you don’t need to be scared. These tumors are benign and noncancerous. They all consist of a core of fibers, ducts, nerve cells, fat cells and an epidermis. Skin tags are usually flesh colored, but they can sometimes have a brownish color to them. Many people don’t even realize they have them, until they accidentally do something to make them fall off and they start to bleed. You may find skin tags in the following places:
– Armpits
– Breasts
– Eyelids
– Groin
– Chest
– & Neck

Skin Tag Removal

If you have skin tags on an area of your body that is bothersome, you may want to do what you can to get rid of them. People are often bothered when they are in prominent places like their eyelids, upper chest or other places that are visible and not covered by clothing. There are several methods used to surgically remove them from your skin.
– Cauterization: using this method, the skin tag is burned off using electrolytes.
– Cryosurgery: using liquid nitrogen, the skin tag is frozen off.
– Ligation: when the blood supply to the skin tag is interrupted, the skin tag falls off.
– Excision: the skin tag is cut off using a scalpel.

Over the Counter Skin Tag Removal Products

There are products that you can purchase over the counter to help you remove skin tags on your own. They are much like the wart freeze off methods. Using liquid nitrogen, you freeze the skin tag and can expect them to fall off between 7 and 10 days. They are not always successful, but some people find that they are worth trying.

What Causes Skin Tags?

While there aren’t any known causes for skin tags, there are some risk factors that make it more likely you will develop them. Those include:
– Being Overweight or Obese
– Diabetes
– Pregnancy
– Those with HPV
